Trade routes running east to west and north to south through Ghana existed throughout the African content long before the first Europeans appeared in this land. It is through this routes that Ghanaian cuisine begun to be molded by the influence from traders. With the arrival of European slave traders and colonialists, the Ghanaian cuisine evolved further encompassing these new influences. The Europeans introduced new foods and spices which the Ghanaians now embedded into their own. The Ghanaian cuisine has significant influences from the Portuguese, Dutch, British, Germans and Danes which all married with their rich indigenous culture and tradition to birth what we now know as Ghanaian suya spice.
